South Korea does not have many major natural resources needed for fuel, however it does have some potential fuel resources such as coal and hydropower. The country's metallic or mineral resources include tungsten, graphite, molybdenum and lead. Coal is an important resource because it can be used for generating electricity; also hydropower is massively important in the role of the country’s electricity. Finally, a minimal yet major natural resource for South Korea is oil. South Korea has very small reserves of oil, ensuring low levels of domestic production. The country's only domestic source of oil comes from offshore fields, with production beginning in 2004. South Korea is surrounded by the Yellow Sea (West Sea), the East China Sea, and the South Sea which has extensive continental shelves that could potentially contain deposits of oil and natural gas reserves. These are some of South Koreas natural resources.
